THE VISION AND ACTIVITIES OF THE ALIGARH OLD BOYS’ ASSOCIATION OF BANGLADESH

The Aligarh Old Boys’ Association (AOBA) was establish in 1948 in then Esat Pakistan as an organization of the ex-student of worldwide reputed Aligarh Muslim University as social and cultural association. The Association was registered in October 14, 1960 with the Registrar of Joint Stock Company and firms bearing Registration Certificate No. 1457/58 B.P. To perform its ideals the Association purchased a plot of land measuring 12 katha 2 chatak (more and less) at the holding no. 146, Motijheel Commercial Area, Dhaka in 1960 and construct a pucca building for its office. It is remarkable to reminder that the AOBA got 638 members enrolled in 1964 that included huge number of highly reputed politician, Honorable Judges of High Court, professors, engineers, Doctors, Educationist, Business magnets, Civil and military officers and so on of East Pakistan. In 1971 after the Liberation War it was inevitable in new born bangladesh to reorganize the Association. The ex Aligarians of Bangladesh, including Prime Minister Captain Monsur Ali, General M.A.G Osmani, Khanbahadur Mahbub Uddin Ahmed, Wimg Crd. M.A. Baque, Justice Ruhul Islam, Justce Baker, Dr.Bozlul Karim, Doctor Johora Begum Kazi, Brig. Genl. Atiqur Rahman, Advocate Mohammad ali, Mr. Habibur Rahman, Mr. Abdur Rashid, Eng. Mohiuddin Ahmed, and many others Donor and Intellectuals took step to reorganize the AOBA. With the leader ship of Prime Minister Captain Monsur Ali they took active part in the socio-cultural development of the new born country Bangladesh with Banner of AOBA. Finally Association’s name Change to The Aligarh Old Boys’ Association of Bangladesh. As a need of Association it began to represent as non political and non profitable, social cultural and charitable institution. For this in the Memorandum and Article of association new articles were inserted in 1981. An “Executive Committee” which is elected by the member of the association in every year preferably in month of February holds and manages its properties to achieve and fulfill the aims and objectives of the association and to day to day affairs. For the fulfillment of its aim the AOBA started to raise fund for construction of commercial buildings to establish charitable hospital, educational institutions, scholarship to poor meritorious student and so on. Finlay the dream came in to force in 1989 when construction of four storied building was started under the active support and supervision of Hannan chouwdhury, the then district judge of Dhaka, and Advocate Habibur Rahman. Now the Building is known as M.A.G. Osmani Bhaban. The AOBA started a project for an English medium school in 1989 under name and style of Aligarh Model Academy” but unfortunately the project is stopped for unavoidable circumstances.

As a contribution of Captain Munsur Ali in 1997 the AOBA built a 7 storied building and named its Captain Munsur Ali Bhaban. A charitable dispensary is located in the ground floor of this building. Which is named as Dr. Johora BegumKazi Health care center and inaugurated by General Osmani in 1984. The function of the health care center is to provide free medicine and physician advice to the destitute and poor people numbering about 3050 people per month. The function of the health care center is further extended on 31.01.14 by opening a Branch at the Proposed Aligarh Model University Campus, Amulia, Demra, Dhaka wherein the health care center is providing free medical services in every Friday titled as “Free Friday Clinic”. A Quran Learning and Adult & Children Education Center is established in 2003 to provide the Quran learning and literacy skill in the 6th floor of the building. Since 5th February, 2014 the Quran Learning and Adult & Children Education Center started its operation at the Proposed Aligarh Model University Campus with the intent to provide Quran learning and literacy skill in 2 days of every week. Presently there are more than 200 (two hundred) students having free Quran learning and literacy skill from the Education Center of AOBA. The AOBA is now dreamt to establish educational institutions ( college and university) in the style and system of Aligarh Muslim University. For these the association has began to raise fund from the philanthropist of home and abroad and to receive the donation a separate bank account under the title of AOBA Academic fund has been opened with uttara bank motijheel branch having A/c No. 29630. It is a great achievement that AOBA is now owner of 103 decimals of by way of purchase situated adjacent to the Amulia Model town at Demra-Rampura highway at cost of 4 (four) crore and three lacs (including land development cost and registration fees). A 1 (one) storied building measuring an area of 4400 (four thousand four hundred) sft. having foundation of 5 (five) storied building is erected on the said plot at the cost of 1.5 (one point five) Crore. A semi-Pucca house measuring an area of 660 (six hundred sixty) sft. is also erected on the said plot which takes Tk.8 Lac. AOBA also proud of having a plot in Dhaka in addition to holding No. 146 at Motijheel. To promote education and learning among the poor, meritorious student of the country AOBA offers scholarship from 2003 and it is now limited to the children of the members only. By relief work the association stands besides the victims of natural calamities such as flood, cyclone, tornado etc. and occasionally it denote fund to the government relief fund including that of the Prime Minister Relief Fund. AOBA Organize seminar and cultural programs with befitting manner for the celebration of national days (such victory day, Independence Day, language day etc.). AOBA is planning to establish a University at Amulia with the aim of providing higher education to those meritorious students who does not have enough financial support. The AOBA is also planning to establish an institution for providing technical education with the intent to reduce unemployment. AOBA has recently decided to build a modern multistoried building by demolishing the old Osmani building. In addition to the above, AOBA is endeavoring to extend its existing social work throughout the country. (Ref: Prof. Dr. Md.
